Congressman Tony Gonzales Expresses National Security Risks Posed by Blue Hills Wind Farm
January 14, 2021
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) today sent a letter to United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to express his concern for the national security risks posed by GH America Energy’s Blue Hills Wind Farm, largely due to the company’s direct ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Congressman Gonzales voiced concerns over the property’s close proximity to Laughlin Air Force Base as well as the access the company would have to large portions of the electrical grid.
Congressman Gonzales urged the following from Ambassador Lighthizer:
“The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) determined that Blue Hills Wind Farm does not currently pose a national security concern. This decision is incorrect and must be rectified. CFIUS can revisit this project at any time, and I encourage the agency to do so as soon as possible.
I also encourage the Trump Administration to review GH America’s acquisition under the authority of President Trump’s Executive Order on Securing the United States Bulk-Power System, issued on May 1, 2020.”
